New VM does see fiber channel disks mounted on my ESX

Hello

I'm using SCVMM 2012 R2 fully updated.

My target host is an ESX 5.1 via Vsphere 5.1.

I want to create a new VM and store it in one of the disk mounted in the Vsphere view (as a datastore)

In Vsphere I see the disk in the Datastores witht their Capacity and Free Space, and in the Devices View I can find the identifier of the fibre channel disk.

In VMM I also see the disks and their fibre channel identifier, however the disk is displayed as Reserved with 0 GB available.

In the placement Paths I see the different Datastores with the same name as in Vsphere... but when I try to create a new VM those paths are not displayed in the placement choice.

How can I see those disks in VMM in order to chose them as target for my VM disks? I only see the ESX local datastore as a possible target :D

IP Pool in a logical network

Hello,

Can I use the IP address management of SCVMM with ESX hosts (and their VCenter)?

I want to build multiple subnet for each services, then build services Template to re-use those subnet in order to assign those subnet IP to the VM deployed without Scripting the IP assignment.

However when I add two static IP network to a single port group SCVMM does never ask/allow me to select wich one I want to use for a deployment. It always use the last configured and with available IP.

How can I select wich IP range I want with what VM I deploy?

After I try to delete folders and subfolder and folder file in appdata, but it still cannot install VMware and show pop up these below screenshot. I was tried the solution from VMware base knowledge but the same thing.

Performance impact when running from VMWare

At my last place of employment I just fired up a VMWare 2008R2 server, loaded WDS, MDT, etc and I was off and running -never had issues. 

New place, new server "god" demands that I prove MDT won't negatively impact the server farm with high disk I/O etc.  I know from experience there was never an observable issue but I need some sort of 'proof'.

Anyone know where I should look for papers on this subject?  I'm not finding much.

VMware ESX Cluster Port Groups not Replicated as Network Sites in SCVMM 2012 Logical Switch

To whom it may concern,

We have added our ESX 4.1 Update 2 Cluster that's being managed by VMware vCenter to SCVMM 2012 because we want to create a private cloud and use the resources of the ESX cluster. SCVMM is replicating all the vSwitch from the ESX cluster as a logical network but it's not replicating the port groups on the vSwitch as Network Sites associated to the Logical Network.

May you please advise or confirm that this is the normal behaviour of SCVMM? Or is there any way that SCVMM would be able to recognize the port groups associated to the ESX vSwitch and replicate it a a Networks Sites associated to Logical Switches?

Your prompt response will be greatly appreciated.

Error 12703 VMM cannot establish a trust relationship SSL/TLS V2V

Issue with V2V in VMM. I though I'd share this one. On a customer site doing a number of V2Vs and P2Vs via VMM. On the V2V it would create the object then fail with the message below where %ServerName is one of the Hyper-V hosts:


12703 VMM cannot establish a trust relationship for
the SSL/TLS secure channel for %ServerName;
server.

Install the certificate to the trusted
people root store of the VMM server
and then try the operation again.

After much digging and testing I found it was an issue with VMM talking to the ESX host. Nothing to do with certs or the hyper-v hosts. I've worked round this issue by migrating the VM onto another ESX host. The ESX environment is going to be decommissioned anyway.

Hope this helps someone out there.

Hi All,

I have deployed Microsoft private cloud using SCVMM, SCOM, SCCM, SCSM, SCO and SCSM Portal...

Also, i am using cloud service process pack runbooks and offerings for my vm provisioning in VM Ware platform...

After submitted the request vm got created but it is throwing an error in SCVMM jobs:A VMWare portgroup with VLAN ID 0 cannot be found on virtual switch vSwitch0...

VLAN ID of the existing virtual switch vSwitch is 48 and that we cannot change...also we cannot create a new vswitch in DC...

How can i resolve this error...

Windows 2008 R2 Running slow under VMware 5.1

I am currently running over 300 VMs on VMware vSphere 5.1 servers. The VMs were migrated last week and all their hardware was updated and the VMware tools were also updated.

The VMs reside on a NetApp FAS 6040 with 2TB of cache. When I perform a basic Windows based test by copy and pasting a large file on a local of the server I get no more than 150 IOPs but when I perform the same task on some other VMs I get over 8000 IOPs.

I've removed VMware tools from the VM and performed a fresh installation.

I've increased the allocated memory from 2GB to 4GB to 10GB and still no improvement. The CPU does not spike when copying so I have sufficient CPUs allocated (single CPU).

I've changed the adapter from a VMXNET 3 down to a VMXNET 2 and also tried the E1000 adapter but still no improvement.

Has anyone experienced the same problem?

Unsupported Undo Disk for some VM?

Hello

I have some VM on my VMware 5.1 ESX that are incorrectly imported in the SCVMM console with a status "unsupported undo disk".

I have checked those VM config and compared with other VM on the same host/datastore/network and I can't find any difference.

A refresh-vm display the exact same information as a get-vm and does not update this error message to anything "understandable" as there is no "Undo disk" for those VMs.

How can I troubleshoot this?

Deploying SharePoint farms in SCVMM

Hi,

We develop SharePoint solutions internally and have a constant need to deploy SharePoint farms. We've been managing this manually using Hyper-V but would like to streamline, automate and standardize our SharePoint farm deployments using SCVMM 2012 R2.

Most of our SharePoint farms are either a single server that contains AD, SQL and SharePoint 2013 (and a slew of other tools) OR a 3 tier SharePoint farm that contains 1 AD, 1 SQL and 1 SharePoint 2013 server.

I've dabbled a little with Service Templates but all of the "recommendations" out there are to create sysprepped VMs and configure them during deployment using scripts etc. I found this to be a little buggy and takes a long time to test, set up and deploy.

What I'd like to do is find a way in SCVMM where I can "clone" and deploy fully installed and fully configured SharePoint farms in isolated (virtual) networks such as that we avoid name/IP/AD collisions. In our case we can have 2 "base" environments that represent the 2 use cases that we mostly use 80% of the time.

I'd like to know if what I'm looking for is doable in SCVMM and if so could you please point me to the right direction/resources.

Having issues with customizing VMs based on vcenter templates

I am wondering if there are any resources I am not aware of.

I need to do the following:

1. Create a VMWare VM using vcenter 5.1 controlling esxi 5.0.

2. Clone that VM to a template using vcenter.

3. Import VMWare template into SCVMM 2012 SP1.

4. Create a customized VM where I change the client OS machine name, join the VM to a domain, and assign product key, in SCVMM using the imported VMWare template.

The behavior I am interested in is a fully customized VM after the "Create VM in Cloud" job is done in SCVMM.

The behavior I am witnessing is the end VM is a duplicate of the Template VM without any of the customizations applied.

This works beautifully with Hyper-V, what am I doing wrong?

Note, I did not run sysprep before converting the VMWare VM to a Template in VCenter.

VSphere appliance 5.1 and SCVMM 2012R2

Hello

Is this possible to use VCenter Appliance with SCVMM?

Until now we always worked with a typical Vcenter installed on a Windows host (with local admin right as required by VMM).

If we change our VCenter to Vcenter Appliance (Under Linux), will it still work? As it's not a Windows host we wont have local admin right... or we should be root?

Would anyone be able to suggest where to look for an answer to this one please?

What I'm doing:I am trying to bring our VMware VSphere environment (at least partially) under SCVMM management.

What happens:After I added the Virtual Center Server to SCVMM as it says to do in http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg610681.aspx (and which should be a very simple 4 or 5 step process) it says "not responding" and the ESXi Hosts are sitting in SCVMM pending (but not adding). The VCServer gives the error above when either trying to adjust the properties; or when trying to remove it from the SCVMM console - so its stuck. I'm using the following versions:

SCVMM 2012 r2;VSphere (ESXi 5.0.0 build 913577);Virtual Centre (5.0.0 build 913577)

ERROR:

VMM cannot complete the VMware operation on the <VCserver> because of the error: The remote server returned and error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required.Resolve the issue in VMware and then try the operation again. ID:12701 Details:Unknown error (0x194)

I've tried every blog and technote I can locate.

Any assistance would be appreciated

Add VMware vCenter host error ID 2947: Authorize Exception

I'm evaluating Hyper-V/SCVMM for our shop. I've got a Hyper-V cluster running and added to SCVMM. I'm now trying to add a VMware vSphere vCenter host in order to convert some VMs,  and receive the following error with the Add VMware VirtualCenter server applet:

Virtual Machine Manager cannot complete the VirtualCenter action on the server MyVirtualCenter because of the following error: A general system error occurred: Authorize Exception.

Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.

ID: 2947
Details: Unknown error (0x194)

I haven't seen this error listed or discussed anywhere except the TechNet listing of errors.

Error creating virtual machine on ESX host

We are running SCVMM 2012 R2, ESX and vCenter 5.1. I have created a vmdk using VMWare's Virtual Disk utility.

I am attempting to create a VM from this blank vmdk and receive the following error:

Error (2947)
Virtual Machine Manager cannot complete the VirtualCenter action on the server <esx-hostname> because of the following error: Failed to open disk scsi0:0: Unsupported or invalid disk type 7. Ensure that the disk has been imported..
Unknown error (0x194)

Recommended Action
Resolve the issue and then try the operation again.

I do not understand the problem as the disk has been imported in SCVMM and created using VMware's own disk creation utility. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

How to use a VHD file in VMWare

I have received a backup of the VMware files that is a vhd file. is there a way I can import these into VMware so I can view and use the files contained within the vhd file. I am running VMware XP mode in Windows 7. Please help.

I would like to deploy a service template to a private cloud based on vsphere/esx 5.5.

I know that the current version support only 5.1 but i can not find any information about when and how SCVMM will support vsphere/esx 5.1.

Any idea?

Need help to remove a ESX Host (removed from the cluster via VC) entries from a VMM Managed ESX Cluster

Hi Experts,

We have a production VMM 2012 SP1 Infrastructure managing both 24 Node ESXi 5.0 Cluster and 12 Node Hyper-V 2012 R2 Cluster.

We planned to split the ESXi Cluster with 24 Nodes, as Two ESX Clusters with 12 Nodes each with different VLANs. So we removed 12 ESX Hosts from old cluster and created as new ESX Cluster in Virtual Center and imported the New ESX Cluster to VMM, which works well and Good. But we have issue with the Old Cluster, Though we have removed 12 ESX Hosts from the old Cluster and make it available as another cluster, the Old Cluster still lists those removed ESX hosts with "Need Attention" status. If we refresh the Old Cluster, we are getting the below Error,

Error (2914)
The connection to the %ServerName% server cannot be established.
Recommended Action
Ensure the server is up and running along with the virtualization service.

Dear experts PLEASE HELP to remove the ESX host entries from the Old Cluster!!!!

BUG! Unable to modify SCSI Adapter type in (ESX) VM Properties through SCVMM2012R2

Hello,

I am doing a proof on concept with SCVMM in our ESX environment. We are running the following:

vSphere Client 5.1.0 Build 1471691

VMWare vCenter Server Version 5.1.0 Build 1473063

ESX host(s) Version 1900470

This is a show stopper for me. I discovered this issue when deploying a new VM and the machine would BSOD at bootup. I discovered that the SCSI type had switched itself to LSI Logic Parallel when it should be LSI Logic SAS. I shut the VM off, changed the adapter type (in vCenter) back to LSI Logic SAS and turned the VM Back on. It worked fine.

I then attempted to modify a current VM that was off. I can change the SCSI adapter type to any other type in VMM; however, when I go into vCenter, the adapter does NOT change. It appears that changing the settings in VMM has NO impact on the VM. I can change other properties without issue (# or CPU's, amount of RAM) and that works fine. I am at a standstill. Please resolve this issue ASAP.
